No fewer than 110 women were on Monday given sewing machines in Mashi local government area of Katsina state to encourage them to be self-reliant.
Arewa Trust reports that the machines were donated by the Nigeria Ports Authority under its corporate social responsibility activities.
Speaking at the distribution of the machines, the District Head of Mashi and Iyan Katsina Kabir Aminu, said the beneficiaries were carefully selected from the 11 wards of the council to ensure that the ideals for what the machines were given was achieved.
He said his office would carefully monitor the beneficiaries to ensure that they use the machines for the purpose intended.
“I will ask my people to monitor markets to ensure that the machines did not find their ways for resell.”
He enjoined the beneficiaries to ensure the success of the programme to pave way for others to also benefit.
While thanking the Managing Director of NPA, Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman, for the donation the monarch urged others to emulate such gesture as it will go a long way in reducing poverty in local communities.
